Quick Release Valve - How it works. Air Braking systems and Commercial vehicles. QRV
A more detailed look at the air braking system, in particular with this video at the quick release valve.
QRV's are fitted to an air braking system to speed up the release of air, as it takes longer for air to escape a system than it does to put it in there. The main applications for quick release valves are in the service line to speed up the release of the service brakes, and in the secondary circuit to speed up the application of the park/secondary brakes. With a similar purpose to the air brake relay, the QRV is just there to speed up the release of compressed air from the braking system.

Dodododo and the aargh made me laugh 🙃
So when you engage, the handbrake air is pumped into a chamber in the brakes, releasing them. When the brake pedal is pressed is the air released from the handbrake chamber? or more air is pumped into an opposite to the handbrake air chamber (working against the handbrake) and engages the brake and then when foot pedal is released the air from this second air chamber is released make the brakes free?
Love how they ended with that quote “perfectly IN TUNE with the 21st century”
I was one of 5 NCB sponsored students at Kirkcaldy Technical College in the late 1970s early 80s and we were asked by the NCB to undertake the basic Mines Rescue training at Cowdenbeath. We all passed the course and I went on to do 6 or 7 years in the brigade. The Harvard Pack test was brutal and being along skinny specimen I had to carry the maximum weight, it was not really a test of strength, but of endurance and recovery. I only got called out once, at the end of a normal Monday working shift at Killoch, to an underground fire at Solsgirth Colliery. Did not get back home until late on the Wednesday. Proves why endurance was required I suppose.
I first discovered QRVs in an industrial setting two years ago. THIS is ABSOLUTELY the very BEST QRV video on UA-cam. Guaranteed. Thank you so much for this wonderful resource.
Hello everyone, I am making bearings
just take run, how gonna be to traffic about air brakes system..... 🤞 😅
Yes air brake courses are horrible. They just parrot what the dmv book says. Makes it difficult to understand really how air brakes work.
From what I can gather, air brakes work in a sort of opposite way to hydraulic brakes. In hydraulic brakes, you need fluid to compress the pads against the discs, but in lorries, you're sort of taking air away, allowing the brakes to 'unlock' and compress against the rotor, so if you have no air, the brakes stay 'unlocked'. Does that sound about right?
I have rebuilt a couple of these transmissions successfully and I still am not sure if I understand just how they work. Thanks for the video. Amazing how someone or a team came up with the original design.
Very well explained, can be understood by everyone
😊😊thanks sir
Hate this videos without commentary
Great info here, many thanks!.
That is a flange yoke on the opposite end yes?
Great job
ON THE TEST QUESTIONS, DOES 2000 FLATBED TRUCK REQUIRED THIRD OR TOP BRAKE LAMP ASSEMBLY
ON THE EXAM TEST QUESTIONS, WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM AIR PRESSURE LEAK ALLOW , 3,5,10,OR 15 PSI.
Nice job!!!
Question, after I push the clutch pedal in and out like 15 times, the clutch starts to get sticky, and there is a squeaky noise coming from clutch. I've had the slave cylinder replaced, as well as the clutch plate. Would the main clutch bearing be the problem?
Any idea about this issue on my 2004 Impreza wagon manual, 156,000 miles? Clutch replaced 20,000 miles ago. Center Differential replaced 200 miles ago. Noise started after center diff replacement, about 100 miles later. Does not make noise in turns (except when coasting). A mild clicking/tapping noise (sounds soft like playing card in bike spoke) is present when coasting in any gear, front main transaxle area (transmission). It varies in frequency and speed, according to the output shaft RPMs, and sometimes it's quieter or not there at all. It's probably a small piece of flat wire from a piece of seal that got away during clutch or center differential replacement. Doesn't seem to affect operations though. Does it about 80% of the time, but is not noticeable 50% of that time. It's quiet enough where talking, dirt roads, road noise, or any stereo masks it. Doesn't make the noise when it's under load...as in forward or reverse gears in play, clutch released. Any ideas, other than debris in case? Thanks!
WHAT BE THE PROBLEM ON MY TRUCK IT DELAYS TO STOP WHEN PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN
Rear wheels or Front Wheels? Firstly make sure you have no air leaking somewhere in any of the circuits If it's the rear wheels, it's the faulty relay valve on the primary circuit (foot brake valve Circuit ). If front wheels, its a faulty quick release valve. They cause brake Slag
What could be the cause of a noises when releasing clutch pedal especially when engine is cold and transmitter is in neutral?
You explain the valves very well. I think the world needs you to do more videos my man. I need a good video to show the operation of an anti compounding valve and another for an inversion valve. I’ve found nothing good yet.
Good job.
Good
Does it make a whirring sound when the clutch is engaged, if it’s not working?
i have a 2017 corvette got stuck in leaves and blew the clutch. paid 4800 dollars to fix now the transmission pops out of second gear. they say its syncros gear. now i need new trany. a pure nightmare,
Thanks for teaching
WHAT PRESSURE DOES AIR BRAKE SYSTEM RUN AT ?? 60 PSI. 100 PSI. 125 PSI ????
NO ONE KNOWS !!!
Depends on the system
WHAT PRESSURE DOES AIR BRAKE SYSTEM RUN AT , 100P SI. 125 PIS. ??
120 psi
WHERE IS THE CONTROL VALVE LOCATED, IS IT THE FOOT PEDAL
Thank you so much for this great great video!
luk- good bearing but bad noise when shifting.....boat motor noise
I am a first year HGV technician apprentice. I can tell you, you have put to shame my training provider's half-ass attempt at explaining this topic. Keep up the good work, a video on trailer control valves would clear up a bit more confusion too. Also just a quick question, is the difference between relay valves and quick release valves just that relay valves are used for long vehicles like truck and trailers, plus the fact that they have their own air tank? they seem to both serve the same function, i.e. minimising brake lag... Thanks again!
easy to understand , easy help
Whats the difference from the relay and quick release and are both installed on a tractor, and if so, why?
So my r33 has 2 relays next to the ecu. Thry dont click that means no power to ecu.my question is all 4 wires are + and no negative feed.is this a problem. Plys 2 eires has 12.4v and 2 has 11.2 v
DISeducational mechanics. Bad way to set bearing and bad way to set grease. Nothing say about spacer..... very bad video. DISeducational mechanics
Let it be noted that air brakes are designed to fail safe. IE if NO air is available ( burst hose) the spring will apply the brakes. There is also the dead man's brake. That is a brake that can apply brakes to the trailer only if it is Jackknifing. Usually fitted to specialist vehicles such as recovery trucks.
Thank you for this
Guys my manual transmission car makes a screeching sound when the engine is running on neutral, but when I press the clutch the sound stops. Left it for one day and came back to it to see if the problem persisted, now whenever I rev the engine the sounds come back, but when I stop revving it stops. Could this be related to the release bearings?
Sounds like the pressure plate is worn. The throw out bearing could be bad. Clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and pilot bearing all come in a kit.
thanks! can you maybe explain /show what causes the issue with worn out syncros?
Love my lil' turbo. What a hoot! 😂
Thanks, Great Video

Very good explanation!!!
